This is a one-day workshop born from the enthusiasm and success of our previous colour mixing masterclass. As artists, we know that understanding our palette is crucial, yet the process of creating comprehensive colour charts can be time-consuming.


This workshop offers a unique opportunity to dedicate an entire day to this essential practice. In a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere, we'll come together to create as many colour charts as possible.

Workshop Details:


  • Date: Tuesday, 6th August 2024

  • Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • Location: 405 Hinkler Dr, Worongary, Gold Coast

  • Number of participants: Limited to 10


This one-day intensive workshop provides a full day of focused learning and practice.



What Participants Will Learn:


In this comprehensive workshop, you'll gain valuable skills and knowledge that will enhance your oil painting practice. By the end of the day, you will have learned:

    • Explore the unique properties of each colour in your oil paint set

    • Discover the full potential of your existing palette


  2. How to Create Perfect Colour Charts

    • Learn to create even steps in tonal value • Understand the importance of consistent value gradation

    • How to create your basic palette colour chart • Identify and organize your core palette colours

    • How to create a colour predominant chart • Explore how each colour influences mixtures


  3. How to Use a Colour Chart in Future Paintings


    • How incorporating your charts into your regular painting practice

    • How to use charts for finding colour harmony in your painting



This hands-on workshop will provide you with practical skills that you can immediately apply to your artwork, helping you to work more confidently with colour.


Materials Provided


As part of the workshop, I offer a comprehensive Colour Chart Pack for $50.

This pack includes:

  1. 10 pre-designed colour charts on

    Canson Canvas Paper with removable grid,

    ensures your charts remain clean and professional-looking

  2. Detailed instructions for completing the charts



Note: While the Colour Chart Pack is available for purchase, it is not mandatory for participation in the workshop. You can create your own charts if you prefer.



What to Bring:

To make the most of this workshop, please bring the following materials:


  1. Oil paints (up to 10 colours)

    • Options for your palette colour choice are provided in a downloadable guide (see below)

  2. Brushes

    • Several bright shape, synthetic brushes (not too soft)

    • Sizes 4 and 6

  3. Palette knives

    • One regular palette knife

    • One small palette knife for applying colour on charts (optional)

  4. Palette

    • Large size palette (grey colour is best)

    • Paper palette is also a good option

  5. Wet wipes

  6. Lunch

    • Please bring your own lunch

    • Morning tea will be provided


Note: Detailed options for your palette colour choices is listed below. This allows you to prepare your preferred selection of paints before the workshop.

You can download this guide to review before the workshop.



By downloading this guide in advance, you'll have time to consider your options and potentially acquire any colours you may not already have in your collection. This preparation will ensure you're ready to make the most of our colour chart creation session.


Remember, while these are my recommended palettes, feel free to bring colours you're comfortable with or curious about. The workshop is about exploring and understanding your unique palette.

Workshop Fee:

  • Full price: $150 for the workshop

  • Plus: $50 for the Colour Chart Pack

  • Special offer: 50% discount ($75) for previous colour mixing workshop participants

  • Additional charts available for $5 per page
